Watch The First Trailer For Michael Bay-Produced 1960s-Set Horror Prequel 'Ouija: Origin Of Evil'

It might be a particularly dumb piece of material to base a movie on — the Hasbro-trademarked board with which you ‘contact the dead’ — and it might have been a very bad movie, but 2014’s horror pic ‘Ouija” was undeniably a hit, taking $100 million worldwide on a budget of just $5 million. So it’s not surprising that a sequel is now on its way. Or more accurately, a prequel.

The first trailer has just arrived for “Ouija: Origin Of Evil,” which seems to be taking a 1960s-set approach presumably influenced in no small way by the enormous success of “The Conjuring.” Here, mom Elizabeth Reaser, a fake spiritualist, must deal with the spirit world after her youngest daughter seemingly becomes possessed by a malevolent spirit.

Produced once again by Michael Bay, and also starring “E.T.” actor Henry Thomas and, perhaps inevitably, “Insidious”’s Lin Shaye, it looks pretty generic on a number of levels, from its creepy kids to the “Conjuring”-style haircuts. And yet we have a little faith, if only because Mike Flanagan (“Oculus”) has proven to be one of the more promising horror directors out there of late. Take a look at the trailer below, and you can see the film just in time for Halloween on October 21st.
