Watch: Futures Get Destroyed In The Venomous New Trailer For ‘House Of Cards’ Season 4

House Of Cards"Without me, you are nothing.” Is showrunner and creator Beau Willimon going out with a bang on his last season of “House Of Cards”? The American political drama on Netflix just got renewed for season five, but in the announcement was the additional news that Willimon was departing to try new creative endeavors. And so (*spoilers ahead*), as Willimon and his staff roll into season four, it appears the animosities of last season are all the more bilious.

There were mixed reactions to “House Of Cards” season three, but frankly, they were unwarranted. Three jumped back on form from season two which nearly jumped the shark with suspension-of-disbelief strains of credulity. At the end of season three, the Underwood foundation of the show POTUS Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and first lady Claire (Robin Wright) had buckled under the weight of the election and years of marital betrayals and hostilities. In the middle of Frank’s struggling re-election campaign, Claire was walking out the door. Whether it would be a separation or a divorce was unclear, but it surely meant bad, bad news for Frank’s campaign.

It’s nebulous what happened in the election, presumably Frank lost, unless the show picks up immediately after, but the thrilling new trailer hints that season four will be full of animus, betrayal and murder. And it’s really a fabulous trailer, punching down with a venomous feeling out of something unhinged like “There Will Be Blood" (the atonal Jonny Greenwood-like music doesn’t hurt).

Here’s the synopsis which give us some clues:

The critically acclaimed Emmy®-nominated drama has its Golden Globe® winning stars Kevin Spacey (as Francis Underwood) and Robin Wright (as Claire Underwood), whose characters have always been each other’s’ strongest allies, showing cracks in their relationship. In an election year, the stakes are now higher than ever, and the biggest threat they face is contending with each other.

“House of Cards” also stars Michael Kelly, Mahershala Ali, Jayne Atkinson, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil, Nathan Darrow, Kim Dickens, Elizabeth Marvel, Dominique McElligott, Molly Parker, Paul Sparks, with Ellen Burstyn, Cicely Tyson and Joel Kinnaman.

Season four begins on March 4th and we can’t wait. Watch the new full-length trailer below.
