Watch: Gorgeous Trailer For U.K. Andrei Tarkovsky Retrospective 'Sculpting Time'

If you happen to be near a cinema in Ireland or the UK on May 20th, you should make a point to check out “Sculpting Time: Andrei Tarkovsky Retrospective,” which just got its first official trailer.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, moviegoers will get the chance to experience all seven of the short-lived visionary director’s films digitally restored and presented the way they should be seen: on the big screen. It’s an opportunity for audiences both new and old to experience the filmmaker Ingmar Bergman considered “the greatest of them all” and the incomparable Lars von Trier calls his God. Some high praise, to be sure, but this trailer does a wonderful job showcasing the radiance, awe and wonder that can come from each of his films. Those include “Ivan’s Childhood,” “Mirror,” “Solaris,” “The Sacrifice,” “Stalker,” “Nostalgia” and “Andrei Rublev.”

A celebration of not only their extraordinary beauty, but how they all examine the metaphysical and spiritual explorations of the human condition, each and every one of them is considered a masterpiece, so the chance to see them all is simply too good to pass up. And this is without mentioning how each comes with newly commissioned trailers, posters, essays and short films, as well as select talks and events depending on the time and location, according to Curzon Artificial Eye’s website. If you have the chance to see any of these, if not all of them, don’t pass it up.

But if you can’t make it to any of the screenings, like me, don’t fret. Each film is expected to come out soon on DVD and Blu-Ray in its restored format, and they can all soon be purchased in an exclusive Tarkovsky box set set. Details will soon be released. I know I’m certainly going to be on the lookout for more information. In the meantime, check out the spellbinding trailer up above.
