After the debut yesterday of the first trailer for "True Detective" season 2, everything else from HBO feels a bit anti-climactic, at least for the moment. So forgive me if the first trailer (via Vanity Fair) for the network’s upcoming comedy series "The Brink" didn’t bowl me over completely.
Starring Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Pablo Schreiber and Aasif Mandvi, the dark comedy focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate, desperate men: Secretary of State Walter Larson, lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot and ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson, who must each pull through the chaos to save the planet from World War Three. It’s quite wacky, and Black in particular plays a character similar to many he’s done previously.
"He’s a wannabe CIA dude, a bit of a doofus, a bit of a stoner. … I had a great time, even when I was being waterboarded," the actor told USA Today earlier this year.
