Watch: Joaquin Phoenix Playing The Video Game In 'Her,' Animator Announces Release Of First Real Game

Her, Joaquin Phoenix

After a seriously ridiculous string of parodies and mashups (and let’s not forget James Franco‘s ruminations on the movie), here’s a look back on Spike Jonze‘s lovely, aching and bruising “Her” that turns the spotlight on a portion of the film you might have forgotten about.

As the movie lays out its not-so-distant future world, among the technologies that are laid out—including the very personalized, Siri-esque O.S.—are immersive, interactive, gesture-controlled, 3D video games. It’s sorta like Kinect on crack and with much more filthy language. Anyway, the film’s animator David OReilly cut together an edited video of those sequences, with Joaquin Phoenix playing the alien world game, and not only that, has announced his first actual real game. And sorry, it’s not the one from “Her.”

Instead, it’s called “Mountain,” but it certainly does allow for lots of player input. Here’s Mashable‘s summary of what it entails:

Known as a “mountain simulator,” OReilly explained that when players start the game, they are first asked to draw pictures based on a series of open-ended questions. Based on their answers to those questions, the game will create a unique mountain for the player to trek. These images will also affect other variables such as snowfall levels, types of vegetation and the terrain.

Additional features of the game are cryptically listed on its website and include: “no controls, automatic save, audio on/off switch, time moves forward, things grow and things die, nature expresses itself, around 50 hours of gameplay, and once generated, you cannot be regenerated.”

Curious? Well, it won’t cost you much. It’s available starting tomorrow for the price of $1. Yes, $1. Hit OReilly’s website for more details.
