Watch: Teaser Trailer For Johnnie To's Cannes Midnight Movie 'Blind Detective'

nullYes, believe it or not, even the prestigious, sniffy Cannes Film Festival has a midnight movie section. Granted, it’s still relatively new, and only features a couple movies per year, but they perhaps realize that after getting stuffed with Important Movies all day, sometimes you just want to sit back and blow off a little bit of cinematic steam. And this year, hopes will be pinned on Johnnie To to deliver.

His latest effort, “Blind Detective” is one of two movies set to unveil for audiences fighting off sleep, and the title pretty much says it all. To reteams with longtime collaborator Andy Lau (“Running Out Of Time,” “Running On Karma,” “Fulltime Killer,” “Casino Raiders II” and many more) to tell the story about a retired detective who teams up with a female inspector to investigate a bank robbery. The twist of course is that he’s blind — or at least functionally blind — and this is the kind of high concept that could easily be fumbled. But there is a streak of ultraviolence in here that has us curious to say the least, so consider this on the radar.

Cannes kicks off on May 15th but no stateside distributor or dates yet for this one. Watch below. [Premiere]
