It’s interesting to note that most studios aren’t at Comic-Con this year. Fox, Sony, Paramount and Universal have all bailed on the San Diego event and in fact, aside from Open Road, it’s really the Marvel v. DC Films event this year, which is maybe why all those said studios decided to skip out on San Diego this year — not wanting to get lost amongst those two juggernauts.
So Marvel had plenty to push this year, but of course, first and foremost for the studio is their one and only title left for 2016: “Doctor Strange” starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The first trailer unveiled a few months ago made the film look like “Inception” meets something like “Dark City” or mindbenders of the sort, and the new trailer unleashed at Comic-Con give us a bigger taste of the sorcerer supreme. One extremely interesting question is how a character like Doctor Strange is going to work within the larger Marvel Universe and The Avengers, but maybe, like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has suggested, the movie opens up the mystical realm of Marvel, which could spawn its own side cosmos not unlike the way “Guardians Of The Galaxy” is separate in their own interstellar world.
Regardless, the new “Doctor Strange” trailer is here and that’s what you really care about. Co-starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton, “Doctor Strange” opens up its new dimension to audiences on November 4th.
