Watch: Trailer For 3D Re-Release Of Pixar's 'Monsters Inc.'

The 3D-ization train rolls on! After last year's 3D re-release of "The Lion King," initially a limited engagement gimmick meant to promote the Blu-ray release, brought in almost $100 million for the Mouse House, the floodgates opened. This month sees the release of a 3D version of Pixar's aquatic fable "Finding Nemo," (which we saw yesterday, and admit was pretty cool). And come December, "Monsters Inc." will be reissued in a newly stereoscopic format, the poster and trailer for which have just arrived.

The trailer (which you can watch below, via Apple Trailers), is a bunch of footage from the movie with a cleverish new tagline ("They're not going down without a fright"). It's a reminder that, while the original movie isn't the most sophisticated visually or storytelling-wise, it is really, really ridiculously funny. Billy Crystal's line delivery of "You've had a lift, you've had a tuck, something has been inserted under your skin…" had us giggling all over again, and the movie has an ooey gooey sweetness that is irrepressible.

Also – the shot of the door chase made us realize how exciting that sequence could look in 3D. The doors will go on forever! We were just at Disney California Adventure and there's a "Monsters Inc."-themed attraction that is really charming and clever, a throwback to the old "dark rides" of Disneyland – and the set piece dramatizing the door chase was a highlight.

Of course, the 3D reissue of "Monsters Inc." also serves to promote the new prequel, "Monsters University," which opens next summer. We're still on the fence about that one, but maybe seeing "Monsters Inc." in a theater again, while wearing goofy Buddy Holly glasses (glasses that take center stage in the new poster, also below), will increase our excitement levels above mild curiosity.

"Monsters Inc." in 3D debuts on December 19th, while "Monsters University" hits June 21st, 2013.
