Watch: U.S. Trailer For Paul Verhoeven's Crowdsourced 'Tricked'

TrickedWhile Paul Verhoeven‘s next proper feature length film will be the upcoming "Elle" starring Isabelle Huppert, a few years ago he tried out a little experiment called "Tricked." How it worked was the first five pages of the script were written by Kim van Kooten, after which the public were asked to submit their ideas for where the story would go next. So Verhoeven and his cast shot the roughly one-hour project in installments, but without knowing what the next narrative development would be. The result of Verheoven’s work is what Jessica Kiang called "entertaining as anything in his back catalogue," and now you’ll be able to see it yourself.

Kino Lorber is bringing "Tricked" stateside, padded with enough material to make a theatrical visit worthwhile. It will be presented in two parts, with the first half highlighting the creative process, followed by the finished product, "Tricked." Here’s the official synopsis:

The story centers on real estate tycoon and womanizer Remco (Peter Blok – Black Book) on the day of his 50th birthday party (thrown by his wife Ineke, played by Ricky Koole). While two of his business partners, Wim and Fred, scheme behind his back, his current mistress Merel and his former office-fling Nadja show up uninvited – with one of them pregnant.

It’s certainly not the kind of cinematic experience you get everyday, so it might be worth tracking down. "Tricked" will open in New York City at Cinema Village on February 16th. Watch below.
