Watch: VFX Sizzle Reel For Denis Villeneuve's 'Sicario'

SicarioThough often associated with summer tentpoles, CG has increasingly become a valuable tool for filmmakers looking to expand the world of their films, even if that world doesn’t involve superheroes or aliens. Case in point, Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario” seamlessly uses CG to allow the modestly-budgeted thriller to bring to life its grim vision of the drug wars. And now a reel has arrived online that breaks down some of the VFX used in the film.

Following in the footsteps of similar reels from David Fincher’s films or “The Wolf Of Wall Street,” VFX company Oblique FX posted a nearly five-minute reel showcasing their work on “Sicario.” Actually shooting at the El Paso border crossing would be an impossible logistical nightmare but with the aid of CG, the crossing can be recreated flawlessly. The rest of the reel is filled with other similarly subtle uses. However, warning to those who haven’t seen the movie **there are spoilers throughout**.
