'Welcome To Hitchcock' Anthology TV Series In The Works

With anthology series proving to be increasingly popular with networks and audiences, it was only a matter of time until the man who popularized the format was revitalized for the contemporary era. For 10 seasons, “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” saw the master of suspense dole out a variety of mysteries and thrillers in a bite-size format, with stories told in 25 minutes and later expanding to 50 minutes. It was hugely popular during its initial run and in syndication, and now Universal Cable Productions are going to bring the filmmaker — well, his brand, at least — back for a whole new generation of TV viewers.

Welcome To Hitchcock” will unfold stories in the spirit of Hitchcock over the course of single season, all with the approval of the Hitchcock Estate. This is actually a pretty nifty idea, and in the growing field of anthology shows, there’s nothing with the tone of Hitchcock just yet, so there’s plenty of opportunity to carve out a strong niche. And we hope it gives genre filmmakers — let’s say, Jeremy Saulnier or Jim Mickle — a chance to bring their talent to the small screen.
