'Wolverine 3' Title Revealed, Hugh Jackman Says It Will Be "Very Different In Tone"

So far, Hugh Jackman‘s solo outings in the X-Men universe haven’t gone crazy with their movie titles: there was “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2009, followed by the simply-named “The Wolverine” in 2013. Now it seems everyone involved is paring back things even further.

Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold tweeted the first poster/promo material for the movie today, featuring Wolverine’s claws, a small kid’s hand, and one word: “Logan.” And behold, the new title for “Wolverine 3.” And for what will be Jackman’s final outing — yes, really — as the mutant, director James Mangold is really going for it. The film will be rated R, and feature a score from Cliff Martinez, who is generally more associated with movies by Nicolas Winding Refn or Steven Soderbergh. Moreover, Jackman confirms that “Logan” is going to be shifting gears a bit in terms of tone.

“We’ve finished shooting. I just saw [director] Jim Mangold today. He’s editing away and finishing that,” Jackman revealed to ET Online. “There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so. That’s all I’ll say. I’m not good. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done.”

“Logan” opens on March 3, 2017. Check out the post and a page from the script.
