Woody Harrelson Reveals Details Of His 'Han Solo' Spinoff Role, Donald Glover Talks Playing Lando Calrissian

Well, it’s official — Woody Harrelson is in the Han Solo “Star Wars” spinoff film. And while the studio’s announcement didn’t specify who exactly the actor would be playing, early chatter had it that he would be a mentor of a sorts to the young smuggler played by Alden Ehrenreich. Harrelson confirms as much in a new interview, but also adds a few more details about his mysterious character.

“I’m a mentor to Han, but I’m also a bit of a criminal,” he told Mashable. “I don’t think I’ll have a lot of make-up or anything. We’ll see how that look develops. I’m meeting with those guys tomorrow, the hair and make-up and stunts and everything. We’ll just have a little discussion about that.”

A mentor who is also criminal sounds like the perfect person to be guiding the early days of Han Solo, but also by the lead character’s side will be Lando Calrissian. Donald Glover will be playing the part first portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, and he’s just exited to geek out on “Star Wars.”

“I grew up on it,” he told Variety. “Lando’s a big deal. He’s the first toy I ever got. It’s interesting, when you have something iconic in a range when people pay attention to it, it’s hard. You want to live up to the expectation, but you can only live up to your own.”

Meanwhile, Diego Luna — who has yet to touch Jabba — was cornered by MTV with a question about whether or not he’ll revive his character from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” in the Han Solo movie. And we’ll let you interpret his body language regarding that. Watch that conversation below.

The Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed movie will open in 2018.
