'Youth in Revolt' Soundtrack Hits January 5, Features Beulah, Fatlip, Fruit Bats & Michael Cera

“My album kicks your album in the face!” is the tagline for the soundtrack to Michael Arteta’s “Youth In Revolt” coming-of-age R-rated comedy starring Micheal Cera.

Originally scheduled for a October 2009 release, the film was pushed earlier this year to a January 8, 2010 release. However, it has been screening early to critics (we missed a recent screening) in hopes of earning Cera a Golden Globe in the comedy section (Globes were released this morning, that didn’t happen so we presume our chances of seeing it early are now gone).

Anyhow, on to the soundtrack which hits stores on January 5. It features a track by Michael Cera called, “I Have A Boyfriend,” a track by rapper Fatlip formerly of the Pharcyde (and several comical Spike Jonze music videos), French ’60s singer Jacque Dutronc (presumably for the suave Cera doppelganger character in the film), beloved ’90s twee-indie band Beulah (of the Elephant 6 collective), the Seattle indie pop band Fruit Bats (their track “When U Love Somebody” is actually really great) and more. You can hear several tracks from the soundtrack on the movie’s Myspace page, including the Michael Cera song which he presumably wrote himself; from the clip we hear it sounds like an instrumental track (Cera’s an accomplished musician and helped score much of the pseudo-documentary, “Paper Heart”).

“Youth In Revolt” also stars Steve Buscemi, Jean Smart, Ray Liotta, Justin Long, Ari Graynor and Zack Galifianakis as well as the newcomer and love interest Portia Doubleday.
