11 Must-See December TV Series To Watch: ‘Black Doves,’ ‘Squid Game,’ ‘What If…?’ & More

While it might seem like December is offering a slower rollout, especially compared to the excess on the film side, there’s still plenty to catch on the television side as the year closes. This is especially true as we all try and play catch up with the abundance of year-end best-of lists that are beginning to appear. It’s a superhero and franchise-heavy month, with new series from “Star Wars” and DC and returning Marvel, but beyond that, there’s plenty to add to your watch list.

Netflix is also having a big month, though, of course, the most noteworthy of its releases is the second season of “Squid Game.” Arriving at the end of December, it will be interesting to see just how it follows up on its tremendous first-season success. Elsewhere, there are new comedies starring Stephanie Hsu and Ray Romano, plus adult animation from James Gunn. The release schedule may be light but it’s undoubtedly eclectic,

The Madness
Colman Domingo stars in the conspiracy thriller limited series, “The Madness.” Created by Stephen Belber (“O.G”), Domingo stars as Muncie Daniels’, a media pundit who must clear his name after discovering a murder deep in the Poconos woods (read our review).
Release Date: The series premiered on November 28 on Netflix (and everyone is surely catching up on it now).

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” is a coming-of-age series that takes place during the same era as “The Mandalorian.” The series, starring Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, and Nick Frost, follows four children who find themselves on an intergalactic adventure after a discovery on their home planet (read our review).
Release Date: Season 1 premieres December 2 on Disney+. 

Creature Commandos
Written by James Gunn, the adult animated series “Creature Commandos” is the first television series in the new DC Universe. Created by Gunn, the series follows the titular team, a group of black ops monsters assembled by Amanda Waller. 
Release Date: Season 1 premiers December 5 on Max. 

Black Doves
Keira Knightley stars in the British spy thriller series, “Black Doves” created by Joe Barton (“The Lazarus Project.”) The series follows Knightley’s Helen, a woman whose affair endangers her secret identity after her lover falls victim to London’s underworld (read our review)
Release Date: Season 1 premieres December 5 on Netflix.
