The 75th Cannes Film Festival is coming to a close on Saturday afternoon, and after much speculation as to what would take home the top prize, it was a familiar winner striking gold again. For the second time in five years, director Ruben Östlund won the coveted Palme d’Or for his English-language debut film, “Triangle of Sadness.” Östlund first won the prize back in 2017 for “The Square” and beat out eighteen other films to win this year’s top prize. With this win, it will be interesting to see how the film shapes out within award season by the end of the year.

The Grand Prix was a tie between “Close,” directed by Lukas Dhont, and “The Stars at Noon,” directed by Claire Denis. It wasn’t the only tie on the day, as the Jury Prize went to Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen’s “The Eight Mountains” and Jerzy Skolimowski’s “EO.”
The Best Director award went to Park Chan-wook for “Decision to Leave.” The Best Actor and Actress prize went to Song Kong-ho for Hirokazu Koreeda’s “Broker” and Zar Amir- Ebrahimi for Ali Abbasi’s “Holy Spider.”
The awards were announced by the jury President, actor Vincent Lindon, one of the co-stars of 2021 Palme d’Or winner “Titane.” Alongside Lindon on the jury were directors Asghar Farhadi, Jeff Nichols, Joachim Trier, and actresses Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace, and Deepika Padukone. Actress Virginie Efira was the master of ceremonies, and the show was held at Cannes’ Grand Théâtre Lumière.
