Everything remains cryptic and speculative around the forthcoming “Star Wars: Episode 7,” but today comes an official piece of nostalgia via the interwebs. Apropos of nothing really (unless there is some random anniversary we don’t know about), the official YouTube channel for the mega-franchise has dropped the 1976 teaser trailer for “Star Wars.” And let’s just say, in the decades since, Lucasfilm‘s marketing has greatly improved.
In what must be the longest logo reveal in history, the two-minute spot uses a pretty distractingly verbose voiceover (“Somewhere in space, this may all be happening right now”; “An epic of heroes, villains and aliens from a thousand worlds”), it’s kinda like a sizzle reel of the action beats and special effects, while trying to sell the saga of a “A boy, and a girl and a universe.” But what do we know about advertising, really? Because whatever people saw in the ’70s, they liked, as “Star Wars” became a monster box-office hit, forever changing the tentpole landscape.
