Alberto Iglesias To Score Scott Cooper’s 'Out Of The Furnace' Starring Christian Bale

nullTwo of the finest scores of 2011 belonged to one man: Alberto Iglesias. The composer who frequently works with Pedro Almodovar didn't get an Oscar nomination for his work on "The Skin I Live In" (though he should have), but did get the nod for his equally impressive work on "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy." And now his talents have been enlisted for another high profile film, and one that is quite different than those two pictures.

Iglesias will score "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper's temporarily titled "Out Of The Furnace." Featuring a ridiculously great cast — Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Sam Sheparrd, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker — the film centers on Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck), who live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.

Iglesias' impressive CV also boasts work for Steven Soderbergh ("Che"), Oliver Stone ("Commandante") and Fernando Meirelles ("The Constant Gardner"), but we're interested to see what he'll pull together for this gritty little flick. "Out Of The Furnace" shot this spring and there's not release date yet. We'd say the fall festival circuit might be too soon for the film to premiere, and while stranger things have happened, this likely a better bet for 2013.
