AnnaSophia Robb Is The New Carrie Bradshaw In 'The Carrie Diaries'

nullThe torch is being passed, and now a whole new generation of women will be told that casual sex, marrying a rich dude and shopping for shoes are the most important things in life.

AnnaSophia Robb is shaking off her wholesome, crippled Christian surfer image from "Soul Surfer" and taking the lead in "The Carrie Diaries," a quasi-prequel to "Sex & The City." God help us all. Based on the literary masterwork by Candance Bushnell, the series will catch up with Carrie in the '80s riding through her senior year of high school, with all the sex, love and friendship complications that arise– and the neon and hairspray too, we guess. This will be housed at The CW, home to such fare as "Gossip Girl" and "One Tree Hill" so you know this will be treated with nuance and care, and not just be some tarted up, steamy soap opera. Right?

Robb joins Stefania Owen who has been cast as her sister, in the show being produced by some of the same folks behind "The O.C." Not only is this shaping up to be a trainwreck, but oh man, this is also the exact sort of fare that we'd wind up watching a marathon of at 2 AM working our way down to the bottom of a tub of Ben & Jerry's. Pray for our stomach. [Variety]
