Paramount wrapped production on their upcoming horror film “Apartment 7A” earlier this month in the UK. And while details are scarce about the film at the moment, Bloody Disgusting has the scoop that the movie may have connections to one of the best horror films of the ’60s.

It may just be a rumor, but the horror news outlet claims the new film is a secret prequel to Roman Polanski’s 1968 masterpiece “Rosemary’s Baby.” Their source tells them “Apartment 7A” is about the woman who dies outside the apartment when Rosemary moves into the Bramford in the original film. With the original’s themes of gaslighting and parasocial coercion, a prequel to “Rosemary’s Baby” fits nicely into the current Hollywood zeitgeist.
But what evidence does Bloody Disgusting or their source have? Well, the IMDB page for “Apartment 7A” has Amy Leeson credited as Rosemary Woodhouse, Mia Farrow‘s character from Polasnki’s film. IMDB also lists Kevin McNally as Roman Castevet, the anagram for satanist Steven Mercato in the 1968 film. Okay, so two names from “Rosemary’s Baby,” but what else?
Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay‘s production company behind horror remakes like 2003’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and 2009’s “Friday The 13th,” is part of the film’s production. So, that’s a big clue that “Apartment 7A” may have ties to “Rosemary’s Baby.” John Krasinski also produces with Allison Seeger through his Sunday Night company, and he was, according to Bloody Disgusting, attached to a remake of “Rosemary’s Baby” fifteen years ago. So, not exactly evidence, but connections that make this rumor more plausible.
“Apartment 7A” also stars “Ozark” star Julia Garner, Dianne West, Marli Siu, and Nikkita Chadha. Natalie Erika James, whose 2020 feature debut “Relic” got high notes from critics, directs the film from a script she co-writes with Christian White (they co-wrote “Relic” together, too).
So, is “Apartment 7A” the latest horror remake, prequel, reimagining from Platinum Dunes? Since the movie wrapped recently, audiences will find out very soon, probably early next year.
