We may be waiting on “Better Call Saul” a little longer than we expected to – the series premiere was bumped from this fall to early next year – but the need for news on the “Breaking Bad” spin-off waits for no one.
The Bob Odenkirk-starring show “could alternate between several decades,” per some comments showrunner Peter Gould gave to The New York Daily News. And this isn’t necessarily new imformation as last fall Saul Goodman himself, Odenkirk, said in an interview that discussions with the showrunners revealed ideas “about a mix of prequel and sequel.”
In the intervening months the show’s timeline seems to have gotten even more nebulous, with Gould now saying “perhaps some of it takes place before ‘Breaking Bad,’ during ‘Breaking Bad’ and after ‘Breaking Bad.’” Despite the fact that this expansive timeline would allow anyone from the original iconic series to return, Gould stresses that the focus is on “mak[ing] a show that stands on its own, is its own story and is a brand extension.”
That being said, Gould adds tantalizingly: “One of the great things about having a timeline which is flexible is…the ability to bring back characters that were killed on ‘Breaking Bad.’” Indeed, we already know Jonathan Banks‘ Mike Ehrmantraut will be back, but it seems the door is wide open for other characters to appear as well.
Even so, Aaron Paul still says Jesse Pinkman won’t be making an appearance. But never say never. [Variety]
