Got a Tip?

Billy Connolly Joins ‘The Hobbit’ As Dwarf Warrior Dain Ironfoot

nullSo just how long and massive has the production on Peter Jackson's two-part, 3D "The Hobbit" been? Well, we're nearly at a year since it first went in front of cameras, it's still shooting and yes, still casting.

Comedian and actor Billy Connolly is the last character to be cast, set to play dwarf warrior Dain Ironfoot in the film. We'd guess he'll mostly feature in the second installment, "The Hobbit: There And Back Again," as Ironfoot joins The Battle Of The Five Armies at the request of his cousin, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). In fact, Dain Ironfoot is only mentioned briefly in the actual book "The Hobbit" but features more prominently in "The Lord Of The Rings," another indication that Peter Jackson is tying big pieces between his first trilogy and these two films together.

Still a long way to go until filming wraps, with lensing expected to take place unti July. And then no sleep for Jackson, as he'll be getting "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" read to hit theaters on December 14th [Deadline]
