Somewhere along the way, Hollywood studios forgot that teasers were only meant to tease. They’re not just trailers with a different name. But the folks behind “Companion” didn’t forget that.

As seen in the teaser for “Companion,” the plot of the film is kept well-hidden as we see what could only be described as a series of terrible relationships. One of the relationships looks to be incredibly dire as it shows the woman handcuffed to a chair as dinner is served. And it ends with that young woman’s arm catching on fire. It’s wild stuff.
“Companion” stars Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets,” “The Boogeyman”), Jack Quaid (“The Boys,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”), Lukas Gage (“Smile 2,” “Dead Boy Detectives”), Megan Suri (“Never Have I Ever,” “It Lives Inside”), Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows,” “Blue Beetle”), and Rupert Friend (“High Desert,” “Asteroid City”). The film is written and directed by Drew Hancock. The filmmaker is probably best known for his writing work on series such as “My Dead Ex” and “Suburgatory.”
The film is produced by the folks behind “Barbarian” — Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, Zach Cregger, and Roy Lee. And honestly, you can see the influence. It’s clear there’s something really creepy going on here, but we just don’t know what it is. “Barbarian” is a film that was marketed one way and turned out to be something completely different when you watched the film. Perhaps, something similar is happening here.
“Companion” is expected to arrive in theaters on January 10, 2025. You can watch the teaser below:
