'The Day Shall Come' Trailer: Chris Morris Satirizes Terrorism & The FBI With Anna Kendrick & Marchánt Davis

It’s been nearly ten years since his last movie, the Islamic terrorism satire “Four Lions,” and now, filmmaker Chris Morris is finally back with his long-belated follow up. Titled “The Day Shall Come,” the movie, which made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, is pitched very much in the same political/satirical vein as his previous film. However, this time, the film, while still laceratingly funny, has a darker tone ultimately, and looks to examine the way law enforcement in the U.S. abuse their powers, specifically in this case, the FBI.

The film stars Marchánt Davis as a poor preacher and farmer in the Miami projects struggling to make ends meet who leads a radicalist religious chapter that wants to have power returned to the oppressed peacefully. Simultaneously, the FBI (played by Anna Kendrick, Dennis O’Hare, Adam David Thompson, and Jim Gaffigan) have messed up a local sting to catch some terrorists. Trying to reach quotas and appease their superiors, they hatch a plan to have an undercover FBI informant (Kayvan Novak from “What We Do In The Shadows” on FX) trick the preacher to accept cash and an arsenal of guns—which he doesn’t want. But the preacher is desperate and needs the money, figuring he can double-cross the terrorists, destroy their weapons, and everyone wins.

What ensues, our review from SXSW wrote, is something that’s funny, “but dark [and] sobering too — an uncomfortable remit of awkward laughs and somber realities.” Essentially, it’s How To Make A Terrorist, or How To Make A Martyr, with the FBI learning that sometimes it’s harder to catch a real terrorist than it is to manufacture your own.

Here’s the official synopsis:

An impoverished preacher who brings hope to the Miami projects is offered cash to save his family from eviction. He has no idea his sponsor works for the FBI who plan to turn him into a criminal by fueling his madcap revolutionary dreams.

The movie also stars Danielle Brooks (“Orange Is The New Black“) and Miles Robbins.  Entertainment One UK has released a new trailer and will open the movie in U.K. & Irish cinemas on October 11th.
