Directors: Joe Swanberg Finds A 'Work Wife,' Ava DuVernay Is 'For Justice' And More

SelmaJoe Swanberg is continuing his ascension from making movies with friends, to making movies with celebrities, and now making movies with a major studio. The filmmaker has signed up to helm "Work Wife" for New Line. Rob McKittrick (“Waiting…”) wrote the latest draft of the script that "follows a pair of thirty-something lawyers who attempt to find out if they really can date a co-worker." Lee Toland Krieger is another movie maker shifting gears. He’s done drama ("The Vicious Kind"), romantic comedy ("Celeste And Jesse Forever"), romantic fantasy (the forthcoming "Age Of Adaline"), and now he’s going into action-thriller mode with "Vanish Man." It will follow "a man who helps people escape their troubled lives by staging elaborate deaths and creating new identities. He finds himself enlisted by the FBI to track down the one client that was not supposed to disappear." Shawn Levy will produce. [Deadline]

Ava DuVernay keeps stacking up project after project following "Selma," and her latest gig is helming the pilot for the CBS series "For Justice." Robert De Niro is one of the producers of the show “which centers on a messianic hit man hired to assassinate the first black mayor of Nashville, triggering a desperate manhunt.” [Deadline]

Ben Stiller is producing the small-screen adaptation of Gary Shteyngart‘s best-selling novel "Super Sad True Love Story." The near-future-set dramedy tells the tale of "a bookish man stuck in a tech-obsessed society and a complex, materialistic young Korean-American woman. While navigating this romance he must also contend with mounting demands from his charismatic boss, who is himself being pressured by the domineering American government." Don Hertzfeld, Oscar-nominated for his 2000 short "Rejected," and winner of the Sundance Short Film award this year for "World Of Tomorrow," is embarking on his first feature animated film "Antarctica." He’s in pre-production right now, but plot details are under wraps. [Buzzfeed]
