The MCU is already bracing for the entry of multiverse baddie Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man 3” and “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” played by Jonathan Majors (“Creed III“) but it looks like an equally menacing threat is going to be coming to meddle with the superheroes in the near future.
A rumor that was making waves over the weekend is getting some credible backup as Deadline supports rumblings that comedic actor Sacha Baron Cohen (“Borat“) is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Mephisto in “Ironheart.” Mephisto is a sinister comic book supervillain that has tangled with Thor, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, and Spider-Man. He’s essentially Marvel’s version of the devil and has connections to characters like Ghost Rider, a character Keanu Reeves and Ryan Gosling have been campaigning to play.
The supernatural element of the series was already confirmed when Anthony Ramos (“In The Heights“) was spotted on set in costume as The Hood, another villain. While in the comics The Hood gets his powers from Doctor Strange antagonist Dormammu, however, the MCU incarnation may be getting them from Mephisto instead. It’s unclear if Mephisto will also approach Riri Williams with an offer too.
The report also speculates the character’s involvement in the “WandaVision” spinoff series, “Agatha: Coven of Chaos.” Mephisto’s entry into the MCU had been long-rumored by fans goes back to “WandaVision” until those wishes were dashed and could be just as big as Thanos or Kang down the line.
Maria Bakalova, his “Borat 2” co-star, recently joined the MCU landing the role of talking dog Cosmo in “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3.”
The six-episode “Ironheart” Disney+ series was created by Chinaka Hodge with a cast that consists of Dominique Thorne, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, and Ramos.
Thorne’s Riri Williams will make her debut in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on November 11.
