Everywhere you turn, one property or another is getting dusted off for the reboot treatment, and the latest to come back to the big screen is “Kickboxer.” Yep, Jean-Claude Van Damme‘s breakout hit, which itself spawned four sequels (though he didn’t appear in any of them), is now being retooled for a new generation. So, say hello to “Kickboxer: Vengeance,” and yes, Van Damme is back.
Directed by John Stockwell (“Crazy/Beautiful,” “Blue Crush“) and featuring Dave Bautista, Gina Carano and Georges St-Pierre, this new movie sees Van Damme in the coach’s corner this time, training Alain Moussi’s Kurt Sloane, who is gearing up to fight the man who killed his brother, hence the title. And this is just the beginning, as Van Damme has already signed on for a role in the followup, “Kickboxer: Retaliation.”
“Kickboxer: Vengeance” arrives on September 2nd.
