'Furiosa': Jodie Comer Reportedly In Contention To Star In 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel

Recently, it was revealed that development on the long-awaited “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel, focused on the character of Furiosa, was shifting into high gear as filmmaker George Miller confirmed that he’s set to begin work on it next. However, we also learned that Charlize Theron, who played Furiosa in ‘Fury Road,’ will definitely not be back to star, given the prequel follows the early days of the character. But now, we have word on at least one of the actresses that Miller may be considering for the action role.

According to THR, Jodie Comer is in the running for the role of Furiosa in the untitled ‘Mad Max’ spin-off feature. Much like Theron, Comer might not be the first person you would think of to play a one-armed, badass truck driver with a buzzcut and warpaint. However, much like Theron, Comer is one of the best actresses working today and would probably make a really great Furiosa.

Comer is probably best known for her role as the co-lead in BBC America’s award-winning series, “Killing Eve.” The actress, herself, has been nominated for dozens of awards for the role, taking home the Best Actress Emmy award last year for her work. She’s also expected to become a major force on the big screen with upcoming roles in Ryan Reynolds’ big action film, “Free Guy,” as well as one of the leads in Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated period film, “The Last Duel,” where she stars opposite Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Ben Affleck.

Of course, Comer isn’t the only actress that has been named as a possible Furiosa. Back in March, it was reported that Miller had already talked to Anya Taylor-Joy about possibly taking over the role, as well. So, even though Comer seems like a great choice, it’s clear that the filmmaker is willing to cast a wide net to find the actress that will take over a role that Theron made iconic in just the span of one incredible film.

Now, even though the Furiosa film is expected to be coming soon on Miller’s slate, that doesn’t mean the film will hit theaters next year. In fact, before he begins work on that film, the filmmaker is set to direct the romance, “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” which stars Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. And work on that film can’t begin until this pandemic is behind us and Hollywood is willing to begin filming again. But hey, we seem to be closer than ever to actually seeing the ‘Fury Road’ prequel, so we can wait a couple of more years.
