Kevin Feige Says Disney+ Shows Will Be "The First Time" TV Series Have Interlinked With MCU (Sorry, 'SHIELD')

In 2020, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding in a big way. With the introduction of Disney+, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has finally found a platform that will allow him to tell stories from the MCU on the small screen, using all the actors and money he’s used to with his film productions. And speaking at CCXP in Brazil (via Omelete), the Marvel boss explained why this is a huge step for the future of the studio.

“After ‘Endgame,’ thinking, ‘What can we do next?’” said Feige. “Disney+ is going to give us this opportunity to tell even deeper stories with characters you already know and love…in a new type of cinematic way that we haven’t done before. We’ve already started shooting two of them and they’re very, very special.”

He added, “And it all, for the first time, will interlink. So, the MCU will be on your TV screen at home on Disney+ and interconnect with the movies and go back and forth. It’s exciting to expand the MCU into even bigger and better heights.”

If you stop and listen really hard, you can hear the cries from the casts of “Agents of SHIELD,” the NetflixDefenders’ universe, “Runaways,” “Cloak & Dagger,” “Inhumans,” and the various other Marvel TV shows that spawned from the MCU but have never been fully embraced by Feige.

Remember back in 2012, when “Avengers” broke box office records and ABC announced “Agents of SHIELD?” The entire premise of the show was piggy-backing off the success of the MCU, including appearances from Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders (among other brief cameos), with Clark Gregg starring. However, in the eyes of Kevin Feige, it appears that those seasons, along with the other shows, are pretty much inconsequential. Sorry, fans!

The good news is that all those people that refused to hate-watch the Netflix shows or endure the tedium of ‘SHIELD’ are given a pass. It’s clear that the TV side of the MCU begins with “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” in Fall 2020. But if you plan on sitting out the Disney+ series, it appears that you’ll only get half of the story.
