Leonardo DiCaprio Reportedly Passed On Paul Thomas Anderson & Alejandro González Iñárritu To Work With Del Toro

When you’re Leonardo DiCaprio, you have choices in life. In your personal life, you can choose what model you’d like to be with on any given day. You have enough money to choose to do a little or as much work as you’d like. You can choose to devote your life to climate change education, if you so desire. And obviously, you can choose which filmmaker you’d like to work with, as just about everyone out there is keen to have you on their next project.

According to Borys Kit from THR, that’s exactly what happened with DiCaprio recently. The Oscar-winning actor had three projects to choose from, all from incredible directors. And as we reported earlier, he appears to have made a choice, working with Guillermo del Toro on “Nightmare Alley.” But who are the unlikely folks that didn’t land DiCaprio? Well, none other than Paul Thomas Anderson and Alejandro González Iñárritu.

That sound you hear is thousands of other actors pulling their hair out and screaming at the sky in frustration. But hey, when you’re DiCaprio, you have choices.

As you already know, DiCaprio is coming off of working with Quentin Tarantino on “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which is easily one of the most anticipated titles of 2019. Before that, he took some time to enjoy life after winning his Oscar for “The Revenant.” And now, it appears that he has the biggest names in Hollywood, once again, knocking down his door.

That being said, the side-effect of knowing that DiCaprio turned down Anderson and Iñárritu is the knowledge that both are actively working on new films and seem to be close to nailing down a leading man. Of course, given the wildly eclectic filmographies from both acclaimed directors, knowing that DiCaprio was in the mix doesn’t tell us anything about what type of film we can expect. Only that one of the biggest actors in the world was seriously considering both.

Ultimately, in the war for DiCaprio, GDT beat out his buddy Iñárritu and the beloved PTA. Not an easy accomplishment.
