'Life' Duo Jake Gyllenhaal & Daniel Espinosa Reteam For 'The Anarchists vs ISIS'

When Jake Gyllenhaal gets into a creative groove with a director, he likes to keep that fire burning. He’s made two films with Denis Villeneuve (“Prisoners,” “Enemy“) with a third in development (“The Son“), and now it looks like his latest film-making buddy is “Life” director Daniel Espinosa.

The pair are set to reteam on “The Anarchists vs ISIS,” based on the Rolling Stone article by Seth Harp, that tells the true story of a ragtag team of American volunteers, socialists and outcasts, who are fighting alongside the Kurdish militia known as the YPG to beat ISIS in Syria and establish an anarchist collective amid the rubble of war. Bold stuff, and a bit of a step up for Espinosa who has mostly shown him himself to be a reliable, if not particularly exceptional, director of genre fare.

There’s no studio home for this yet, and no word on when it might roll, so we’ll see if this becomes a priority for Gyllenhaal or not. But the actor definitely knows how to give himself great options to turn to, and this is yet another one.
