Got a Tip?

Lin-Manuel Miranda To Helm Big-Screen Adaptation Of ‘Tick, Tick…Boom!’

After the massive success of “Hamilton” on Broadway, Lin-Manuel Miranda has been building his star even more in Hollywood. He’s contributed music to the massive Disney hit “Moana,” and will soon be seen in the film “Mary Poppins Returns.” However, it appears that his next project is going to see him going on the other side of the camera to direct his first feature film.

THR is reporting that Miranda has signed on to direct “Tick, Tick…Boom!” The film is based on the 2014 play of the same name, which actually starred the filmmaker. “Tick, Tick…Boom!” follows the life of Jonathan Larson, who is best known for being the playwright behind the hit musical “Rent.” It tells the true story of Larson, who while waiting tables in New York City is working on his production “Superbia.” However, while a struggling artist, his girlfriend is tired of putting her life on hold waiting for his career to take off.

“Jonathan Larson’s captivating storytelling in Rent first taught me that musicals could be contemporary, true to life, and depict your own experiences. But it was ‘Tick, Tick…Boom!’ that solidified that drive in me to hone my own voice as a playwright,” Miranda said in a statement.

Miranda is joined by Steven Levenson, who will write the big-screen adaptation. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Julie Oh are producing “Tick, Tick…Boom!” alongside the “Hamilton” star.

“From ‘8 Mile’ to ‘Get On Up,’ I’ve always been personally drawn to stories that depict the perseverance and strength of character to follow one’s dreams. Jonathan Larson’s story is deeply moving and inspirational. Having the amazing talents and unique visions of Lin and Steven for the film adaptation is the perfect creative fit that adds to the project’s authenticity,” said Grazer.

No word on a release date yet.
