Luca Guadagnino Says Quentin Tarantino Cried After Watching The New 'Suspiria'

Forget two thumbs up or the Tomatometer. The new industry standard for the quality of a film should be the Tarantino Emotional Spectrum™. And as we christen this new film review grading system, we’d like to introduce you to the first film being reviewed – Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming “Suspiria” remake. And if we are basing the quality of the film totally off Quentin Tarantino’s reaction to the horror tale, then audiences are in for a treat later this year.

According to Guadagnino, who directed the remake to Dario Argento’s classic film, not only did Tarantino love the new “Suspiria,” but it also moved the “Pulp Fiction” filmmaker to tears. In an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica (via Screen Crush), Guadagnino opened up about what it was like showing his friend QT his latest film:

“We’ve been friends since our jury duty at the Venice Film Festival. I was nervous but eager to hear his advice. We saw it at his place and his reaction warmed me. He was enthusiastic about it, in the end he was crying and hugged me. Because it’s a horror movie but also a melodrama, my goal was to make you look at the horror without being able to take [your eyes off the screen] because you’re captivated by the characters. Amazon is very happy.”

So, for those keeping track of the Tarantino grading system, “Suspiria” is clearly going to be one of the best films of the year based on his crying and hugging of Guadagnino. That must the Tarantino equivalent of an A+.

While we haven’t seen much in the way of footage for this remake, other than the incredible trailer that was recently released, we have no doubt that this “Suspiria” should be great. The director is coming off a breakout, Oscar-nominated turn helming “Call Me By Your Name,” and the cast he has put together for this horror-thriller is incredible, headlined by Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, and Chloë Grace Moretz. The latter of which recently compared the new “Suspiria” to the quality of a Stanley Kubrick film.

Sadly, we’re still quite far from the official release of “Suspiria,” courtesy of Amazon Studios, on November 2.
