Martin Scorsese To Direct A New Doc About The 1970s Music Scene In New York City

Today is the day that fans, who were unable to check out “The Irishman” in theaters, will finally get the chance to watch the latest film from legendary director Martin Scorsese. And just in time for that release, we now know that there’s going to be another new Scorsese film coming soon, but this time he’s leaving the world of gangsters behind and once again entering the world of documentaries.

According to Variety, Scorsese has teamed up with Imagine Entertainment to work on a brand-new documentary, as part of the production company’s massive slate of almost two-dozen non-scripted films and series. The new doc doesn’t have a title or a release date, but it is said to be focused on the ‘70s music scene in New York City. Obviously, that’s something that Scorsese is very in tune with, having worked with Mick Jagger on the series “Vinyl,” as well as various other music-related projects.

“It is incredible how much we’ve been able to get off the ground,” says Imagine’s Justin Wilkes. “It’s a testament to the marketplace right now: There’s such enthusiasm for premium nonscripted content from A-list talent.”

Earlier this year, Scorsese released “Rolling Thunder Revue” through Netflix, which is his most recent documentary effort. That film followed the titular music tour that was led by the incomparable Bob Dylan. Previously, the filmmaker has worked on non-scripted films focused on musicians such as the Rolling Stones, The Band, and George Harrison, to name a few.

No word on who might distribute this film, but Imagine has already worked with platforms such as Netflix and Apple TV+ in the past, so perhaps Scorsese’s streaming days aren’t done yet.
