NEON Correctly Responds To Trump's Recent Anti-'Parasite' Comments By Pointing Out The Obvious

Trump is gonna Trump. It’s just the way of the world, right? And normally, considering we don’t cover many political stories on this website, we can avoid the latest comments made by the President. But for some reason (well, I think we can all guess a number of reasons), Trump decided to use his rally in Colorado recently to talk about “Parasite” and how it won the big prize at the Oscars.

As you might expect, his comments…weren’t complimentary.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” said Trump. “And the winner is… a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all that about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea, with trade. On top of that, they give them the best movie of the year. Was it good? I don’t know. Can we ‘Gone With the Wind’ back, please? ‘Sunset Boulevard.’ So many great movies.”

He added, “I thought it was ‘best foreign film,’ right? Did this ever happen before?”

Obviously, this is a ridiculous comment to make about the Oscars and film, in general. It’s so ludicrous to even say something like this, for a number of reasons. The comments don’t even deserve a rebuttal. In fact, NEON, the distributor of “Parasite,” put it best in the company’s response to the news.

NEON tweeted, “Understandable, he can’t read.”

The distributor followed that comment with a few hashtags including #Bong2020.

We’ve seen this sort of anti-“Parasite” sentiment from folks over the past couple of weeks since the film won four Oscars. It all seems to be coming from multiple angles—folks mad that “Joker” didn’t win, people upset that a “foreign” movie won Best Picture, etc… But the one common denominator that seems to encompass all of these people is the fact that they haven’t seen Bong Joon Ho’s film. That’s the real tragedy.

“Parasite” is in theaters now. I emplore everyone to check it out. And if you have already seen it, check it out in IMAX or the black and white screenings. “Parasite” and film, in general, benefit from your attendance.
