Paul Thomas Anderson Continues To Be An Honorary Haim Sister With A New Music Video For 'Hallelujah'

Another day, another Paul Thomas Anderson-directed music video for Haim. At this point, the three sisters in the band really should induct Anderson as an honorary sister. It appears that his influence continues to play a large part in the band’s image, at least in recent years, as he has helmed a variety of their music videos.

The latest Haim/Anderson collab is for the music video for “Hallelujah.” Unlike the other videos and songs that the group partnered with Anderson for, “Hallelujah” is a much more calm affair, emphasizing the emotions of the song over flashy locales. But don’t mistake that for saying the video has no style. There’s definitely some visual flourishes found throughout the video that show that Anderson didn’t just phone it in for Haim this time.

One of the explanations influenced Anderson’s video. The relationship between the sisters in the “Hallelujah” video is shown to have a supernatural angle, with each sister controlling the actions of another, while also being able to mentally control the environment around them. It’s not as flashy as you might expect by that description, but as with the other Anderson-directed Haim videos, “Hallelujah” puts the emphasis on the music first and the video trickery second.
