Robert De Niro Reportedly Will Star As John D. Rockefeller In A New Film Directed By David O. Russell

Even though it would appear that many guilds aren’t going to recognize Robert De Niro’s performance in Martin Scorsese’sThe Irishman,” there are plenty of film fans that understand just how much skill and effort was turned in over the course of the extended run-time. While perhaps overshadowed by Joe Pesci and Al Pacino, De Niro once again proved that he’s still one of the best actors on the planet.

And according to a report from the Daily Mail, the actor is going to eventually get another chance to team up with his “Silver Lining’s Playbook” filmmaker David O. Russell on a new film focused on one of the greatest businessmen in American history, written by Charles Randolph (“Bombshell“). The report claims that De Niro will star in a new biopic about the legendary John D. Rockefeller, a self-made billionaire that struck it big with his Standard Oil Company at the end of the 19th century.

As mentioned earlier today, Russell is probably going to be teaming with Christian Bale on a new film this spring, so it appears there’s no rush on the Rockefeller picture. De Niro, himself, is currently about to begin production on Scorsese’s next film, “Killing of the Flower Moon,” and the report claims the Russell film will probably come after the actor is done with his “next couple of movie projects.”

“Silver Linings Playbook,” which hit theaters in 2012, earned 8 Oscar nominations, including a Best Supporting Actor nod for De Niro. The film’s only win was for Best Actress recipient Jennifer Lawrence. In addition to that film, De Niro and Russell collaborated on the 2015 film “Joy,” though the actor didn’t land an Oscar nomination for his performance.
