Update: Looks like there was a bit of miscommunication on this one on behalf of The Rainband who issued the initial press release. Reps for Ken Loach have clarified that he is not directing this short film. However, "Route Irish" star Trevor Williams is directing "Plenty More Fish In The Sea" and has asked The Rainband to contribute a song. Any talk of a screening at Cannes next year is premature at best.
Whenever there's word of a new project from legendary British director Ken Loach, we sit up and take notice. If that project is connected in some way to the Cannes Film Festival, our ears prick up even more in regards to the Palme d'Or winner. Before you get too excited though we should point out that this is related to Loach's latest short film, not a new feature, although we'll take anything we can get.
Loach has a new short film in the works titled "Plenty More Fish In The Sea," and it's sounds pretty promising. The story will center on a forty year old man (played by "Route Irish" star Trevor Wlliams) who's been married twenty years and has two children, and focuses on his foray into internet dating and a doomed affair. Sounds like a project perfect for the social realist director, though there's no word yet on when it will lens. But before we get to that, Loach's latest feature, "The Angels' Share" which stars John Henshaw and Roger Allam, is expected to be released later this year with a strong prospect that it will walk the Croisette in May (you can take a look at the first images from the film here).
Loach has also approached the British indie group, The Rainband, to write the title song for the short which will be titled "Careful What You Wish For." The Manchester band were recently acknowledged as Rising Stars by the O2 Event Group and invited to the British pop music industry's annual circle jerk, The Brit Awards. The short is expected to premiere at Cannes in 2013. That's right, next year — always pays to plan ahead.
