Rumor: Jessica Chastain In The Mix To Swing On The Vine As Jane In David Yates' 'Tarzan'

Jessica ChastainTwo-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain has seemingly done it all — including a low-rent horror movie — but has yet to dip her toes in the blockbuster world. Opportunities arose last year when parts in “Oblivion” and “Iron Man 3floated her way but they didn’t pan out. But now another movie may find her on a vine, swinging hard for the multiplex.

According to the New York Post, Chastain is “the first choice to play Jane” in “Tarzan.” Set to be directed by “Harry Potter” helmer David Yates, the movie tentatively has Alexander Skarsgard as the loinclothed hero and Samuel L. Jackson as Civil War veteran George Washington Williams in the story that follows John Clayton III, who gets reassimilated into society only to be asked by Queen Victoria to investigate some strange things going on in the Congo. So Chastain as a third-wheel love interest in this? Pass. Though hopefully the script gives the character more to do than get flung over the shoulder of Tarzan.

There’s no word on when this will shoot or who else is on the Warner Bros wishlist. But either way, Chastain is busy on stage, and already has a role in Liv Ullmann‘s “Miss Julieslated to shoot later this year. We’d prefer that frankly, than a cursory run through a blockbuster.
