Got a Tip?

Scott Rudin Says Reports About Carey Mulligan Being Offered ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Are Untrue

UPDATE! Sort of. We basically reported this yesterday in a nicer way, but you weren’t listening and decided to side with the unreliable British press instead*; the whole is she/isn’t she with Carey Mulligan in the starring role of David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” And today, we learn that producer Scott Rudin, called reports confirming an offer to Mulligan “absolutely not true.”

So, there is no firm confirmation of an offer to Mulligan and it’s probably safe to assume that Fincher’s first idea is still to cast an unknown in the role of Lisbeth Salander. But, like we said yesterday, until Academy Award-winning scribe Steve Zaillian hands in a script, any talk of casting is premature and probably just speculation. What they’re — Rudin and producers — are saying is yes, it’s totally untrue that she’s been cast. What he isn’t saying is he, Sony, and the rest of the producers think she’s great. But you know what? They also likely think fine delicious kobe beef. That doesn’t mean she’s got the role. Toldj… oh wait, nevermind… *serves you right.
