'Scream 6': Liana Liberato, 'Avatar' Actor Jack Champion & More Join Cast

No one expected ‘Scream,’ the fifth installment in the meta-horror franchise, to do well at the box office. But the movie did alright for the first in the series since 2011’s ‘Scream 4,’ taking in $140 million worldwide at the box office. So, naturally, Paramount wants another sequel out in theaters ASAP, and plenty of teen actors are willing to line themselves up as Ghostface’s next victims.

Deadline reports that ‘Scream 6’ adds four new names to its ensemble cast, including Jack Crawford, one of the stars of James Cameron’sAvatar: The Way Of Water,” out later this year. Crawford’s in the subsequent two “Avatar” sequels too. Also joining the party are Liana Liberato, from Amazon Prime’sTotally Killer,” Devyn Nekoda from the Disney+ show “Sneakerella,” and John Segarra, who has a supporting role in the upcoming “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.”

The foursome joins Melissa Berrara, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jenny Ortega, and Mason Gooding, all reprising their roles from the last film. Hayden Panettiere also returns to reprise her role as Kirby from “Scream 4.” Dermot Mulroney is also on board in an undisclosed part. But guess who won’t be back? Neve Campbell, aka Sidney Prescott, the “Scream” series heroine, will sit this installment out due to a pay dispute with Spyglass Media. So, in the case of “Scream 6,” the franchise is moving in a new direction without Sidney there to save the day.

And that’s not the only way “Scream 6” separates itself from previous installments. While plot details are slim now, the sequel sees the survivors from the last movie leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start elsewhere. Obviously, whoever Ghostface is this time will make sure this new chapter is just as gruesome and violent, but that’s to be expected.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett return to direct “Scream 6.” Also returning are James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who wrote the screenplay for “Scream.” Busick also worked with the pair of directors on 2019’s “Ready Or Not.”

“Scream 6” has a tentative release date of March 31, 2013, so audiences won’t have to wait long to see who Ghostface kills off next.
