Got a Tip?

Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg To Rewrite Comedy ‘Neighborhood Watch’

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg hit Hollywood and made their mark quickly penning the smash hit “Superbad,” the weed comedy “The Pineapple Express” and have “The Green Hornet” hitting theaters in January and their top secret hard-R animated filmSausage Party” in the works. Now they’ve added one more to their plate.

The duo have signed on to rewrite “Neighborhood Watch,” a comedy that has been kicking around Hollywood for a while and has seen Shawn Levy and David Dobkin attached to direct with Will Ferrell at one point set to star. The lame, sort of Adam Sandler-esque premise follows a bunch of guys who form a neighborhood watch group as “a front for dads to get some male bonding time away from the family. Things go awry when the group accidentally uncovers a plot bent on destroying the world.” The project originally had a script by Jared Stern (“Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” the upcoming “Arthur” remake) but obviously with Rogen and Goldberg now taking their pens to it, the film will most likely be indicative of their sensibilities (i.e. more drugs and girl talk).

The sort of harmless Pete Segal (“Get Smart,” “Tommy Boy“) is attached to direct but his faceless, toothless work behind the camera seems like a wrong fit for a Rogen/Goldberg script. That said, if it’s a work-for-hire gig maybe their standards will be a bit lower (please see “Drillbit Taylor” which Rogen was brought onto to punch up). The hiring of Segal/Rogen/Goldberg should get some heat on the project once again, but it’s still a bit of a way off.
