Got a Tip?

‘Standing Up, Falling Down’ Trailer: Billy Crystal & Ben Schwartz Are An Unlikely Pair In This New Comedy

One of the tried and true plots for a comedy film is the “guy falls on rough times and moves back with his parents” scenario. We’ve seen it numerous times before, and normally, that type of premise wouldn’t make us stand up and take notice. However, in the case of “Standing Up, Falling Down,” we’re curious mainly due to the two leads — Billy Crystal and Ben Schwartz.

As seen in the new trailer for the film, “Standing Up, Falling Down” follows a hapless 30-something that has to move back in with his parents after his stand-up comedy career in Los Angeles falls apart after four years. While back in his hometown, he becomes the unlikely sidekick to a dermatologist that would rather smoke weed than end his days as a boring old man.

The film stars Billy Crystal, Ben Schwartz, Eloise Mumford, Grace Gummer, Nate Corddry, Debra Monk, and Kevin Dunn. “Standing Up, Falling Down” marks the directorial debut of Matt Ratner, who previously served as a producer on films like “Manson Family Vacation,” “First Girl I Loved,” and “Band of Robbers.”

The film screened at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and will arrive in select theaters and VOD on February 21.

Here’s the synopsis:

After four years of chasing his stand-up comedy dream in Los Angeles, 34-year-old Scott Rollins (Ben Schwartz) has crashed and burned. Hard. Left with little money and a fledgling at best “career”, Scott has no choice but to regroup, lick his wounds, and return home to his parent’s house in Long Island. While trying to figure out what to do next, Scott pines after his ex, Becky Brookes (Eloise Mumford), a successful photographer who has since married a former mutual friend. On a night out at the bar, Scott strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric dermatologist, Marty (Billy Crystal), who has regrets of his own. Marty and Scott both help each other find the courage to face the failures in their lives.
