Even beyond “Nobody Knows,” which follows four half-siblings living without their parents, his filmography features countless examples of taking young generations as seriously as older ones in his ensembles. One doesn’t need to know the high ceiling of this humanist master to feel disappointed by his latest film, “Look Back,” but it certainly doesn’t help.

After premiering his science-fiction family drama “Sheep in the Box” at Cannes earlier this year, the “Shoplifters” filmmaker will bring another new feature to the fall festival circuit. His live-action adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s “Look Back” will make its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
