Remember Vincent Gallo? After a steady career acting, Gallo really broke out in 1998 with the release of his indie darling, “Buffalo ‘66.” Five years later, he returned with another directorial effort, the controversial drama, “The Brown Bunny.” But since then, he’s been a bit under the radar, with smaller acting roles and lesser-known directorial gigs. Well, it appears the actor-filmmaker is set to star in his most high-profile film in a decade, “Shut In,” but the feature is already bound to be controversial, well before it hits theaters.

Films that opened last weekend showed strong holds headed into week two, while others opened bigger than expected. Maybe the Trump years will at least be good for getting people to go to the movies….

“Doctor Strange” stayed on top of the box office, conjuring another $43 million domestically, and $60 million overseas.

After having been knocked around with a few different release dates, this fall the thriller “Shut In” will finally make its way to the big screen. It marks a rare turn toward genre fare for Naomi Watts, and for her young co-star, “Room” breakout Jacob Tremblay, one of two hair-raising movies he has coming in the months ahead, including the horror, “Before I Wake.”

Penned by Christina Hodson, and directed by Farren Blackburn (episodes of “Daredevil” and “Luther“), the story follows a woman and her deaf foster child, who must come together to face a terror that comes knocking at their door.
