Gal Gadot‘s time with the world of “Wonder Woman” and DC Comics films seems to be at an end, as a new interview with host Josh Horowitz for his popular industry podcast “Happy Sad Confused” indicates that she’s now moving on despite being previously told by DC Studios that they had been considering doing another feature film with her character and hints that playing the DC heroine again doesn’t exactly line up with her busy life these days.

When James Gunn announced the ambitious DC Studios film slate that he and co-CEO Peter Safran were working on, people were largely not shocked to find out it was more of a full reboot. A new Superman, a new Batman, etc… For fans and people who keep up with superhero film universes, this made sense. But for Chris Pine, who starred in the “Wonder Woman” franchise under the previous regime at Warner Bros.

At one point, Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman” was arguably the most successful and beloved of the DC properties, and the studio was going to move forward with franchise director Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 3” and lead actress Gal Gadot. Of course, all that changed when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios and made a hard creative reset of the DC Universe instead.

“Rogue Squadron” may not be dead after all, but according to Patty Jenkins, “Wonder Woman 3” (or another “Wonder Woman” movie in the new DCU) certainly is. On TCM‘s “Talking Pictures” podcast, the director confirmed she’s done making “Wonder Woman” movies for DC. “Yeah, for the time being, or easily forever,” she said, reiterating, “Easily forever, yeah.”

DC fans have really been through the wringer in the last 12 months. There was recent hope for fans who loved the previous DC Extended Universe created by filmmaker Zack Snyder: Gal Gadot had teased that she and James Gunn—the new co-head of DC Studios—had discussed and maybe even confirmed a “Wonder Woman 3” film (a project that had been put on hold earlier this year when Gunn rejected filmmaker Patty Jenkins’ treatment).

If you’ve heard some of the rumors swirling, some of them gossipy and nasty, everything from Patty Jenkins walking away from “Wonder Woman 3,” refusing to make changes to her treatment, and being difficult to work with, well know that the filmmaker has heard them herself and isn’t happy.

Jenkins took to social media this evening to refute some of the claims swirling around about her, some from the Wrap and others from Jeff Sneider’s YouTube Show that really painted her in a hostile, hard-to-work-with light.

Earlier this week, Gal Gadot teased a “Wonder Woman” update on Twitter and an announcement. Fans thought it to mean good news, probably word about Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 3,” and possibly an update, release date, or word that the project was officially moving forward. “A few years ago, it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman,” she wrote. “I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character, and more than anything, I’m grateful for YOU, the fans.

Director Patty Jenkins recently voiced her objection to the day-and-date model at CinemaCon, which was first used by WarnerMedia on her film “Wonder Woman 1984” before applying the hybrid model to all of their 2021 releases as a way to help boost subscriptions to their streaming service, HBO Max. This led to the public ire from fellow directors Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, with Nolan reportedly looking to sever his working relationship with the studio over their controversial decision.

When WarnerMedia announced that “Wonder Woman 1984” would have a day-and-date release dropping on HBO Max at the same time as theaters, it sounded from various reports that it was a contractual situation that has been resolved before the announcement. This made their other announcement about all 2021 releases following the hybrid releases without working out deals with talent and production partners extremely puzzling.

However, director Patty Jenkins happens to share a similar opinion about the day-and-date release model as fellow directing peers Christopher Nolan (“Tenet“) and Denis Villeneuve (“Dune“).

It was also the day that marked the closing of a chapter of Warner Bros.’ DC cinematic universe and the beginning of a new direction for the superhero films in the years to come.

The discourse around “Wonder Woman 1984” online right now is a little toxic right now, to say the least. And that’s probably due to the cycle of news and social media in today’s modern world, and perhaps a bit of (not necessarily unwarranted) resentment too. The narrative goes a little like this: hand-selected critics early and rave about the film with hyperbole. Some critics caution it’s not all that, but the film balloons to an 89% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Though the recent deal between Warner Bros. and HBO Max that sends the studio’s entire 2021 film lineup to the streaming service day-and-date with theaters doesn’t officially begin until January with “The Little Things,” many see “Wonder Woman 1984” as the test case for the new paradigm. That means that director Patty Jenkins probably has some thoughts on this incredibly important deal that could be the final nail in the coffin of the traditional theatrical release model.

We are exactly one week from the release of “Wonder Woman 1984.” Though that release strategy is a whole different story, for now, we’re here to discuss what’s next. Specifically, we’re here to discuss why it is starting to sound like director Patty Jenkins‘ time in the world of Diana Prince sounds like it’s coming to an end, when previously it seemed like a no-brainer.

You know them, you love them…or maybe you hate them? Regardless, it’s common knowledge that you can’t make a superhero film without adding a post-credits tease at the end. And though critics noticed the distinct lack of one at the end of their screeners for “Wonder Woman 1984,” director Patty Jenkins assured fans, in a recent episode of the Reel Blend podcast, that there is most definitely a post-credits scene to her latest superhero blockbuster.

With the success of 2017’s “Wonder Woman,” people tend to forget that before then, director Patty Jenkins wasn’t the superstar director she is today. Of course, she broke out in a big, big way thanks to the Charlize Theron-starrer “Monster,” but between that film and ‘WW,’ there was 14 years of only directing one or two episodes of TV series. And in a new interview with Vanity Fair, the director discusses those hard times and explains why she’d like to return for an eventual “Wonder Woman 3.”

As mentioned, after the Oscar-winning success of “Monster,” Jenkins was on top of the world.
