The Russo Brothers Reveal Katherine Langford's Role In 'Avengers: Endgame' That Was Cut After Test Screenings

**Massive spoilers for “Avengers: Endgame” below**

When you first experience “Avengers: Endgame,” it can be overwhelming. By the end of the film’s expanded run-time, you’re likely to have felt that you watched three separate movies, culminating in the biggest superhero battle ever seen before. So, you’d be forgiven if you didn’t process every little detail of what you saw, or more specifically, what you didn’t see. But leave it to the film nerds (no offense, as I’d consider myself very much part of that grouping) like Josh Horowitz to really ask the detailed questions to directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

And one of the big unanswered questions about ‘Endgame’ that isn’t referenced in the film or during any of the promotional material is the absence of Katherine Langford. The young actress from “13 Reasons Why” was cast in the film in a super secret role. But then she doesn’t appear at all during the film. So, what the hell happened to her? The Russos are here to explain, as part of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

“There was an idea that we had that Tony [Stark] was going to go into the metaphysical waystation that Thanos goes into when he snapped his fingers [at the end of ‘Infinity War’]. There was going to be a future version of [Tony’s] daughter in that waystation,” said Joe Russo.

He continued, “We showed it to a test audience and it was really confusing for them.”

“What we realized about it was that we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter,” added Anthony Russo. “It wasn’t resonating with us on an emotional level, which is why we moved away from it.”

“The intention was that his future daughter forgave him and gave him peace to go,” said Joe Russo.

It’s perfectly reasonable for audiences to be confused by the scene, as the original version seen in ‘Infinity War’ opened up a ton of questions from diehard fans. And it makes sense that audiences wouldn’t have necessarily been connected to the adult version of Morgan, Tony Stark’s daughter. That being said, it could have been very emotional and added yet another place where audiences would have erupted into tears. Hopefully, it can be included in the Blu-ray.

“Avengers: Endgame” is in theaters now.
