'Thunder Force' Trailer: Melissa McCarthy & Octavia Spencer Star In A Superhero Comedy From Director Ben Falcone

We haven’t had a good superhero lampooning in quite some time, and that’s exactly what we’re hoping to get in “Thunder Force,” an upcoming action-comedy movie featuring Melissa McCarthy. Written and directed by Ben Falcone, McCarthy’s husband and longtime creative partner (he’s directed her in five films now since 2014, including “The Boss,” “Life Of The Party,” and 2020’s “Superintelligence.” The movie co-stars Octavia Spencer, Pom Klementieff, Melissa Leo and is a superhero comedy film about a woman who has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people

McCarthy, a bunch of talented women, and a riff on superheroes, it doesn’t need to get more complicated than that. Here’s a recent synopsis:

In a world terrorized by super-villains, one woman has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people. But when scientist Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) accidentally imbues her estranged best-friend Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) with incredible abilities, the two women must become the first superhero team.

Interestingly enough, they got one of the perfect action/comedy directors to shoot the film: Barry Peterson, known for films like the “21 Jump Street” franchise, “The Lego Movie,” “Central Intelligence,” and “Game Night,” which if you haven’t seen is an amazing and hilarious comedic riff on the films of David Fincher and Peterson does a fabulous job mimicking his longtime DP Jeff Cronenweth.

Netflix released a trailer for “Thunder Force” and announced a release date of April 9. Take a look below and pencil this one in for some pandemic-at-home viewing later this spring.
