The Wachowskis Are Back For A Fourth 'Matrix' Film According To 'John Wick 3' Director

We’ve known for a while now that “The Matrix” continues to be a franchise that is being slated for a return. Now, 20 years after the original film became a phenomenon, we are getting a bit more information about a possible fourth film in the franchise and how the original directors are most likely going to be involved.

No, the news doesn’t come from the studio, the directors, the actors, or anyone else you might think would spill the beans on a fourth ‘Matrix’ film. Instead, the news comes courtesy of an interview with “John Wick 3” filmmaker Chad Stahelski. In a discussion with YahooUK, the filmmaker revealed that a fourth ‘Matrix’ is definitely in development and the Wachowskis are very much involved.

“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a ‘Matrix,’ but they’re expanding what we all loved,” Stahelski said. “And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”

When asked to clarify if saying that the Wachowskis were actually going to step behind the camera for this fourth installment of the franchise, Stahelski replied, “I’m not sure of the overall. I’m not sure if Lana is.”

The director continued by saying if the Wachowskis needed help, “I would absolutely put down whatever I was doing to help them.”

Now, if you’re confused as to how Stahelski has insider information about the franchise, the director came from the world of stunts, and he worked on the famous sci-fi/action series. And interestingly enough, Stahelski was sitting next to Keanu Reeves, star of ‘The Matrix,’ when discussing this. Obviously, the first question after learning about a new film in the ‘Matrix’ franchise is to ask if Neo will return in some capacity.

“That would be a gift,” Reeves said. “I wouldn’t say no to that. Yeah.”

Does any of this mean that we are guaranteed to have a new ‘Matrix’ film directed by one or both of the Wachowskis? Of course not. However, if you’re one of the folks that would rather see the franchise continue with its original creative minds behind it, this is probably really great news.
