Coldplay has a new album coming out on May 19th called Ghost Stories, and undoubtedly it will be viewed as the Chris Martin/Gwyneth Paltrow breakup album that everyone will be listening all summer because that’s what happens when the band releases an album. And to get the promo train started properly, Chris Martin and co. have dropped the first video from the disc and as usual, have rounded up big talent to help them.
Music video director and sometimes filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund is behind the camera for “Magic,” which takes things quite literally. Zhang Ziyi plays a gorgeous magician who is in the clutches of a mustache-twirling husband, while pined after by her assistant (both roles played by Martin) with everything soundtracked to the new computerized beats of the band’s fresh sound that Bon Iver beat them to a few years ago. But we suppose that’s neither here nor there as Coldplay will still sell a bajillion records. Watch below. [Pitchfork]
